  • The data set I have used falls under the same theme I have explored for assignment 1, with the same criteria, however, the only difference is that it contains annual unemployment rates as opposed to monthly in one year – which allows for many comparative analyses opportunities. In addition, the data set is more complete. The statistics were also taken from the same source (Eurostat).
  • The data set can be found here.
  • I have filtered out the 2004 data it contains some missing data.
  • I have incorporated two interactive controllers:

1.a list box

2.a slider

  • I have visualized the data in two ways:

1.as a line chart

2.as a bar chart

  • This particular image represents:

1.the annual unemployment rates in Spain from 2005 – 2013

  1. the unemployment rates of all countries studied in the year 2013

The first chart is a line chart representing unemployment percentages for a European country of choice – chosen in the list box. It allows one to view unemployment patterns of an individual country over the years. This is useful to allow for comparative analysis of unemployment rates from year to year – for each individual country.  To further clarify, the percentage value and year are displayed under each corresponding reference point on the line chart.

This particular image represents the unemployment patterns of Lithuania from 2005 to 2013.

The second chart is a bar chart representing unemployment percentages for all countries included in the statistical study , within a year of choice ranging between 2005 to 2013. This year is chosen using the slider on the right. The percentage values are represented as bars – height corresponding to the annual unemployment percentage. Each bar represents a country – with the country name written beneath its corresponding bar. This chart allows for many comparative analyses opportunities of annual unemployment rates among several countries at once.

This particular image represents the unemployment rates of the countries in 2005.
