Final Project – UoS Campus Pedestrian Flow Study

The final project focuses on the frequency of campus route use by students. The source of the data comes from several GPS track files which were recorded by students in this university.

As an improvement of last project, there are some additional information added into the sketch in terms of data variety. Basically, the diagram has three types of presentation of how frequently students will walk through a route way in the campus and a same range of colour was used to describe the attitude level of the road.

1. Line graph: Each line drown was to highlight the route used, and the line weight shows the using frequency in all GPS track files.

2. Circle graph is another formation showing the using frequency of each route by radius of circles.

3. In 3D view, a simple OBJ model was imported to the sketch to help user more directly figure out the position of each bar in the graph. Boxes with different heights were drawn to show the value. A slider at right side could adjust the scale of elements in each diagram.

In a long term, the study of using frequency of roads in campus can give designer more useful and accurate information about pedestrian flow in campus especially opening campus like University of Sheffield. The way people use the routes could affects the urban planning in the future.
